NWBA Summer Wheelchair Basketball Camp
Their will be a series of 4 summer camps for military veterans and active duty personnel with a disability with the first being held July 24-27, 2014 at University of Texas-Arlington. The second camp will be held at Ft. Belvoir, VA August 7-8, 2014. The NWBA is looking for athltes that can potentialy fit into our high performance pool. During the first two camps athletes will be evaluated for invite to a third camp at UTA September 5-7, 2014. These athletes will receive coaching and training along side of some of our Junior and Senior National team as well as one of our top college division teams. For the third camp the athletes will be selected to attend. The final camp will be a camp in which up to 3 athletes will be invited to attend a training camp along site our USA National Teams with coaching from our USA team staff.
Who is Eligible to Attend?
Doug Garner will be the head coach of the camps. Doug is head coach of University of Texas-Arlington Movin Mavs wheelchair basketball program. Doug was alos the assistant coach of the U23 USA Men's team. Jason Nelms will be the coach of the Ft. Belvoir camp. Nelms is a decorated athlete at the Senior level including a Bronze Medal at the 2012 London Paralympics. He has won numerous National Championships with the Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks within the NWBA and he is the head coach of the UTA Movin Mavs Women's team.
Housing will be provided free of charge to all veterans and military personnel.
The registration fee is free for all veterans and wounded warriors. This includes your meals, housing (based on double occupancy), transportation to/from the airport and transportation to/from gym and hotel. Anyone needing travel assistance to one of the camps should contact Sherrice Fox.
Camp 1: July 24-27, Univesrity of Texas-Arlington
Camp 2: August 7-8, Ft. Belvoir, VA
Camp 3: September 5-7, Univesrity of Texas-Arlington (Invite Only)
Camp 4: TBD
All attendees must be self-sufficient in all daily activities of daily living as there will be no care services provided by the camp. Attendees are welcome to bring personal care attendants at their own expense.
